This autumn and winter, Devonshire Square is introducing ‘Festive Harmonies’, a new series of Social Singing Workshops inviting the local community to come together through music, creativity and shared experiences.
Launching on Wednesday, 4th November, the initiative forms part of DSQ’s Wellness & Fitness Programme, which aims to support the wellbeing and happiness of the Devonshire Square community through activities that encourage a healthy, balanced and connected lifestyle.
Led by Elizabeth Swedlund, renowned vocal coach and professional conductor at Music in Offices, a long-standing partner of Devonshire Square, the workshops will offer an opportunity to discover the benefits and enjoyment of singing together. Open to everyone, regardless of musical background or previous experience, the sessions are designed to encourage participation, build confidence and, above all, have fun.
Beyond the enjoyment of music itself, group singing offers a number of benefits for mental and emotional wellbeing. It has been shown to encourage positive emotions, help reduce stress and anxiety, and strengthen feelings of trust and social connection. Sharing the experience of making music can also provide a valuable opportunity to step away from everyday routines, connect with others and enjoy a different kind of lunchtime break.
Rehearsals will take place every Wednesday, from 1:15pm to 2:00pm, at the DSQube Creative Studio. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the musical programme by suggesting their favourite songs, making each session a collaborative experience shaped by the group.
By taking part in Festive Harmonies, participants will also have the opportunity to become part of DSQ’s International Singers Choir, bringing together members of the Devonshire Square community and the wider public through a shared passion for music. The workshops will build towards a special performance at DSQ’s end-of-term celebration, giving the choir an opportunity to showcase its progress and celebrate the experience together.
‘Festive Harmonies’ is free to attend and open to everyone, including members of the Devonshire Square community and external visitors.
