From 16th to 19th May, Devonshire Square will proudly support the Ukrainians in UK Community by hosting in its DSQube pop-up art studio the Vyshyvanka Fest!
Vyshyvanka celebrates World Embroidery Day, a significant day for Ukrainians, as this national holiday was originally established to preserve the ancient folk tradition of creating and wearing ethnic Ukrainian embroidered clothing, in celebration of cultural identity and ethnic minorities.
The 4-day festival will feature an exclusive collection of Ukrainian traditional clothes of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, representing various regions of Ukraine. The event will also showcase original creations by Ukrainian brands incorporating traditional embroidery motifs.
The programme includes lectures delivered by fashion historians, an exhibition of original fashion illustrations by artist Tanya Chulkova, and an exciting fashion photography contest, among other thematic activities.
On Thursday 16th May, to mark the opening of the showroom, all members of the Devonshire Square community are invited to a bespoke tour of the exhibition with a complimentary tasting experience of the traditional and delicious Ukrainian cherry liqueur Piana Vyshnia. The liqueur tasting experience will take place from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Highlights of the festival include a fashion show taking place on Thursday 16th at 6pm, showcasing original ethnic collections presented by talented Ukrainian designers. The show is produced by an organizing committee of 55 talented creatives, members of the Ukrainian diaspora in London, led by Ukrainian culture ambassador Aleksandra Volkova.
Registration for the fashion show is required due to limited availability. Tickets can be booked through the Ukrainians in UK Community official website.
You are all warmly invited to visit the showroom and join Devonshire Square and the Ukrainians in UK Community in celebrating Vyshyvanka 2024!
