On Wednesday 21st February, at 1pm, Devonshire Square will be celebrating Chinese New Year by hosting in its historical Western Courtyard an authentic Lion Dance show, performed by internationally renowned Lion Dance & Kung Fu troupe, Shaolin Fist, led by Grand Master Yap Leong.
Shaolin Fist has been featured multiple times on both BBC and ITV Channels, and has been an integral part of the London Chinatown festivities for more than two decades during the Chinese New Year celebration parade, and the Mooncake Festival.
The Lion Dance is an important ritual in Chinese cultures, with roots dating back thousands of years.
This traditional performance is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to those who attend it, bring success to businesses, and drive away evil spirits on auspicious occasions.
In addition to the captivating performance, the event will also include a gastronomy experience, available to DSQ’s occupiers who downloaded the DSQ app ( https://app.dsq.london), and to pre-registered attendees, on a first-come-first-served basis.
Participants will be treated to a complimentary tasting of oriental festive delicacies, both savoury and sweet.
The savoury offering will include the delicious Hoisin Duck Bao Buns, prepared for the occasion by talented Executive Chef Larry Ogedengbe of Lucky Voice.
Those with a sweet tooth, will be able to enjoy the legendary and irresistible wheelcake, a moist and fluffy Taiwanese pancake with creamy fillings, which will be served in a variety of flavours, including adzuki bean, chocolate, matcha and vanilla custard.
The wheelcakes will be prepared for the event by the skilled confectioners from local pastry shop Wheelcake Island.
Their delicious wheelcakes have been praised by both national and international food critics, and featured on various TV productions, including BBC Good Food, and national publications, such as the Evening Standard and Time Out London.
