'Music is my Life' - Lunchtime piano recital by Chapman Shum, in aid of The Amber Trust

1st JUN

On Thursday 1st June, from 1pm to 1.30pm, Devonshire Square will be hosting in its Western Courtyard, ‘Music is my Life’, a lunchtime piano recital by Chapman Shum – a very talented and profoundly inspiring 12-year old pianist from Hong Kong – with the aim of encouraging donations in aid of UK’s charity The Amber Trust,  the only national charity dedicated to supporting visually impaired children with their musical development and education.

Despite being born blind, with a rare disease that affects his speech and learning abilities, and with autism, Chapman has not let this hold him back.

In 2021, he passed the ABRSM Grade 8 exam with distinction, and is now challenging himself to pursue further musical qualifications.

With his can-do spirit, Chapman has won several music scholarships and was even nominated for the 2021 Hong Kong Spirit Award.

Chapman’s love for music started at a very young age, when he taught himself to play ‘It’s a Small World’ on a toy piano after visiting Disneyland.

He has now become a seasoned performer who plays for various organisations such as the Amber Trust, London Youth Folk Ensemble and Haw Par Music.

Chapman is now residing in London and he has performed in various iconic venues across the capital.

Chapman will be presenting to the Devonshire Square’s community a beautiful repertoire that includes music by Bach, Mozart, Grieg, Chopin and Makholm, and by sharing his music he hopes to inspire people who are facing difficulties in their life and work, encouraging them to find the emotional strength to overcome challenging moments.

You are all warmly invited to attend the recital and to welcome to our community this very young artist whose talent, exemplary resilience and determination has been inspiring people all over the world.

We would like to thank each and every one of you who will be joining Chapman and DSQ in supporting the Amber Trust.
